European Graduate Program

Looking in my calendar, I realise that I have already been working for Cargill for more than a year as an IT Graduate. Time flies when you are having fun! After graduating, I started working for Cargill’s European IT department. With more than 400 colleagues, around 12.000 PCs and 120 applications to support, my department is bigger than most companies in Europe!

The objective for my traineeship: two years, three assignments of which one is abroad, get to know as much people as possible and get comfortable with the main processes in my department. And, next to the European Graduate Programme, I follow specific trainings in IT and project management methods.

My first assignment was to provide performance reports on our projects organisation with an advanced project management tool, roll it out to other teams in the organisation and link it to a financial recharging system.

My second assignment brought me to our European office in Mechelen (Belgium) to manage a project to identify and remove hardware/software that doesn’t meet Cargill’s IT standards anymore. A new location, a new team and presentations for the management team made it a real challenge!

Next stop, my last assignment in the traineeship, where I have to help implement our ERP solution and train the users in one of our plants in Europe. Because I got immediate responsibilities, very hands-on projects, I haven’t been bored for a minute.

Looking into the future, with the speed Cargill is growing today, there will be enough choice of jobs and locations to keep on developing myself for years after my traineeship. Looking forward to it!
