European Graduate Program

After a substantial period of studying, Wageningen Agricultural University and Erasmus University Rotterdam, I started as a Logistics Management Trainee in Cargill.
The first day my manager showed me my traineeship plan for the first two years. It will consist of two planning jobs, a project for the Amsterdam site and a European project.
Hence, I started my first job doing the planning for soybean meal at our crush plant in Amsterdam. In this job you are basically responsible for three things:
1. Arrange sufficient load out capacity (trucks, ships, and trains) so that the plant can always produce. If all silos are filled to the brim, one or two plants will have to go down. 2. Supplying customers so their plants can keep on running. 3. Minimise logistical costs by optimising our logistics and projects focused on cost reduction.
I immediately got considerable responsibilities in my first job, which resulted in a steep learning curve. Instead of being watched all the time, Cargill gives you freedom and responsibility and lets you decide when to call for help from others.
Besides the essential experience in our daily business I am participating in the European Graduate Programme. It consists of several training sessions, and allows me to network with European colleagues. It is a lot of fun and broadening of perspective!
Last but certainly not least I would like to mention the international scope of Cargill, which matches my ambition to go abroad in order to work a few years in a different culture.
Overall, Cargill is a dynamic and challenging environment to work in, and I certainly would say like colleagues do: ‘Never a dull moment’.
